What Is Self-Leadership? What Is My Story of Life? Blog ImageMy story of life

I have been a leader of a premier organization in Mumbai City for a very long time and worked hard for it because I loved the organization, I loved its people and most importantly I loved what I was doing. There was so much power, energy, happiness all around and I was basking in the glory of what people were saying. I got many appreciations like wonderful organization is all because of you and you have done so well. I used to reach to the heavens.
Until one day my body said, so far it was all okay but no further. In all these basking, I forgot about myself, I forgot what am I, how to take care of myself. I used to work 24*7, no holidays, it was fine because I enjoyed my work but taking care of myself was something which I missed to do. I also forgot about my personal relationships. There were beautiful relationships outside friends, colleagues etc. lifetime relationships, but there are some personal relationships that you have nurtured which because of your work you forget or you take them for granted, and this is what hit me also very hard.

One fine day my body started collapsing and a sense of deep fear which I had never known in my life gripped me. It was The Fear of Survival. If you are not surviving, what is the use of your designation, your role, responsibility and all the glories that you have captured? Nothing matters in front of survival.

So from an external flamboyant leader, I moved inside towards my inner self and when I moved inside my inner self, I was surprised to find the world of my own inside. The world that I found out was my physical self and when I was examining from my mind’s eye, I could see the tears of every part of my body that was hurt and needed my attention. I could feel my body. My mind had stored such unwanted memories, unwanted hurt, unwanted pain, anger, etc. Even now I go through the process every day of removing the clutter in my mind and removing the memories of pain, hurt and fear one by one. The moment it moves away from me, there’s a light feeling in me. A feeling of victory that I’ve done it and I can do it. And then the body started healing.

I had only two things to do, Trust & Believe the doctor completely, and Trust & Believe in my own capacities of healing and reversing what I had been through. And it worked. On top of that, I had the support from my friends, family, therapist, etc. and the universe started bringing everyone together to heal because I had the spirit that I need to heal myself and I knew the power within me can heal me totally.

So if I can do it, everybody on this earth can do it. We only need to be aware of ourselves and that is leadership. So basically, I first understood the situation, I brought the external leadership capacities internal. I made a macrocosm into a microcosm. Elaborating it, my entire body became a system or an organization that I had to take care of, my mind, my thinking, feelings, etc. became people that I had to take care of. I delegated work to all of my body parts as well as to every pore and cell of my body, I started talking to the cells of my body. And gradually things started changing so I knew I had to direct my own life and one-day fear totally disappeared. When you have faced death and you have the power to reverse it, and you have done it because you are responsible for it, you have started living in the present. You have understood the meaning of life is to love yourself, first love yourself, care for yourself and you can care for the world. This the mantra I learned.

What is Self-Leadership?

A leader is a self-aware leader, a person who is self-aware, who lives in the present and who takes care of the self. Self-leadership equates to the leadership competencies of Self Observation and Self-Management but most importantly self-leadership impacts all aspects of your life, your health, your career, and your relationships.
